Queen Bee Ara Najarian Apologizes to Block Vartan Gharpetian from Being Mayor of Glendale

We wondered what it would take for Ara Najarian to get to be the ceremonial Mayor of Glendale one last time (allegedly).
Yesterday we found out.
On Monday, Vartan Gharpetian seemed to think he was next in line for mayor, after Najarian flamed out and melted down, slapping his own city with a lawsuit that was ultimately thrown out, costing taxpayers nearly 65,000 in legal fees and filings.
Vartan took to social media to invite everyone to come watch him be sworn in as mayor. His wife was seen in the front row at the opening of the meeting.(His post was liked by local MAGA girlypop Lisa Cusack.)
However, in a turn of events that seemed to surprise nobody more than Vartan, Ara Najarian was voted in as mayor 4-1. Upon assuming the title, issued a stern but vague statement in which he did not really own up to his actions, but rather called on everyone else to be nice, saying he "condemn[s] statements made by some" (but not him?).
Najarian's "apology" appeared to be part of the deal laid out by Councilmember Dan Brotman in 2024 in response to Ara's vile lies about Glendale Public Schools teaching 'oral sex' on a right-wing YouTube channel interview in October 2023 and comments at Glendale City Council in May 2024 in which Najarian doubled down on his false claims.
When the April 2024 mayor selection vote came up, Councilmember Brotman stated that Ara could potentially be mayor ONLY if he corrected the record. So Najarian issued his statement publicly yesterday, because being mayor of Glendale is the coolest.
Fellow Councilmembers Ardy Kassakhian, Elen Asatryan and of course Ara joined Dan in voting to make Najarian mayor. Vartan was the lone no vote, and seemed surprised at the outcome. (Friendly reminder that Vartan Gharpetian has also appeared and endorsed extremist candidates like Aneta Krpekyan, so either way Glendale was heading for a LOKA-adjacent mayor in 2025.)
In typical hysterical fashion, local online harpies Glendale Parents [sic] Voices posted that Ara's non-apology sounded like a "hostage statement".
Don't worry Vartan, you can be mayor in 2026!
