For the last two weeks violent and aggressive ICE raids have been deployed on the people of the greater LA area. Widespread protests and community organizing have been met with militarized police crackdowns and brutality. For ongoing updates please consider supporting L.A. Taco and LA Public Press-- both trustworthy local sources with journalists doing essential on-the-ground reporting.
With ICE and DHS agents reported to be staying in area hotels, local organizers and activists have begun targeted noise focused protests designed to disrupt sleep and pressure hotels to cease offering housing to state agents. If you would like to join these efforts, follow no.sleep.for.ice for daily updates on organized protest efforts.
While the city of Glendale did sever its contract with ICE for use of the city's jail, ICE and DHS activity has continued in the city with reports of ICE activity targeting day laborers and street vendors. There are ways you can help:
Participate in a rapid response/community defense training with CHIRLA or Union del Barrio (and support them financially!)
Join a citizen patrol and monitor likely target sites such as immigrant owned restaurants, Home Depot, and areas where street vendors do business.
Print and carry Know Your Rights "red cards" and distribute them in your neighborhood and businesses you frequent.
IF YOU SEE I.C.E activity, call the L.A. Rapid Response Network: 888-624-4752
If you witness a detention: film and ask the person being held for their NAME and BIRTHDATE.
Spread information, not panic: if you see ICE/DHS follow S.A.L.U.T.E guidelines.
Remember: WE KEEP US SAFE.
